Best vegetarian and vegan breakfast in Norwich

On a standard work day, breakfast might consist of something simple and quick: tea and toast, perhaps some cereal, or just a quick coffee as you head out the door. However, on weekends or days off, when you have a little more time to savour the most important meal of the day, why not treat yourself to something more substantial? Whether it’s a luxurious porridge and a smoothie for one, or an epic brunch with friends after a night out, here are the best vegetarian and vegan breakfast options that Norwich has to offer…

Olives

While their offerings of breakfast sandwiches and lighter fare such as spinach, eggs and tomatoes on sourdough toast are all delicious, what really sets Olives apart in the breakfast stakes is the truly heroic portions for their full cooked breakfasts. A plate stacked with vegan sausages, maple-smoked tempeh, bubble and squeak and fried bread, all cooked fresh to order, will cost you an incredibly reasonable £9 and set you up for the rest of the day. Perfect for the morning after a night out, or after a long morning riding your bike around Norfolk’s beautiful countryside.

The Green Grocers

Best known for their pizza evenings, The Green Grocers on Earlham Road is also a bustling cafe during the daytime, offering wonderful breakfast options seven days a week. Driven by a desire to showcase the best local produce, The Green Grocers serve up everything from delicious homemade muesli or toast from a choice of freshly baked breads, to larger cooked dishes. With the delicious bonus of fresh smoothies and coffee roasted locally by the award-winning Strangers, this is the perfect place to while away an hour on your own, catch up with friends, or bring the whole family for a delicious breakfast out.

Ancestors

This entirely vegan coffee shop delivers a plethora of delicious, healthy breakfast options alongside their perfectly-brewed coffee. Smoothies, a range of freshly made cakes and breads and their cooked offerings (the breakfast sandwich is a particularly filling delight) are all uniformly excellent, but it’s the smoothie bowls that we love the most! A wonderful mix of fresh fruits, nut butters and other fresh ingredients, topped with more fruit, granola and seeds, these bowls are a healthy, filling and delicious way to begin any day.

Franks Bar / North

Serving breakfast all day on a Sunday, Frank’s - and their sister outlet North - provide an excellent and varied option when it comes to choosing a veggie or vegan breakfast in the city. Whether it be toasted bagels, freshly-made pastries or all-out cooked fare, Franks and North have got you covered. Particular highlights include the indulgent but absolutely delicious American pancake stacks and the sensational Shakshuka; a perfectly balanced dish of eggs, baked in a tomato and pepper stew, served with feta. Wash all this down with one of their Bloody Mary sunday specials and you’re all set for the day ahead.

The Bicycle Shop

One of the most delightful interiors of any cafe in Norwich is the perfect place to enjoy a fresh, hearty, healthy breakfast. So-named as a nod to the building’s past incarnation as a bicycle repair shop, the present day cafe serves up a range of options to power you through the day, whether it’s on two feet, two wheels or otherwise. A variety of egg dishes can be complemented with a choice of different toasts and additional items, a particular favourite being their scrambled eggs on sourdough with mushrooms; while the porridge with honey, cream and dried fruit is also divine.
