Norwich: We Out Here

Roll on festival season…to add to local offerings: Latitude, Houghton and Cosmic Roots, we’ve also got our eye on new, Cambridge-based ‘We Out Here’.

We Out Here’s a brand-new UK festival co-curated by legendary tastemaker Gilles Peterson, his label Brownswood and radio station Worldwide FM. Taking their name from one of our favourite albums of the year, ‘We Out Here’, the festival’s eclectic programme stands to pay tribute to the global jazz scene and the club culture it inspires. The festival runs from the 15th-18th August at the beautiful Abbots Ripton (previously home to Secret Garden Party).

Dubbed a ‘Worldwide Family Gathering’: the ethos of Family is reflected in the number of collectives from around the UK involved in the festival - including, and we’re very proud to see - several of our favourite party-purveyors from Norwich.

Tropico, Soul Stew, Keep On Dancing, Raydio, Parish and Our House are among those from the fine city Cambridge-bound this summer, to add to an exciting roster spanning from everything from the jazzy to the electronic…

They join the likes of legendary saxophonist Gary Bartz and spiritual jazz icon Idris Ackamoor, as well as pivotal stars from the London Jazz scene: Sons of Kemet, The Comet is Coming, Kokoroko and Steam Down Orchestra.

Forerunners in the electronic field are out in force too: Call Super, Objekt, Josey Rebelle and Skee Mask represent We Out Here’s intrinsic relationship with the nightclub scene and for iconic club artists who paved the way: with the likes of Theo Parrish, Francois K and Mike Dunn also on board.

On top of that - a host of artists representing the worlds of UK hip-hop, reggae and funk and soul also help contribute to a brilliantly broad and diverse line-up.

We’re excited to see where our Norfolk contingent will slot into this jam-packed weekend of programming.

Tropico are set to host a 5-hour stage takeover, representing their trademark blend of RnB, Hip-Hop, Grime, Funk and everything in between: with the help of a set of familiar faces…we know where we’ll be!

See below for the complete 2019 We Out Here line-up:

With the final line-up release having added over 80 artists to the original line-up announcement, it’s a truly hefty line-up across the board. Additions we’re most excited about include: Gondwana boss Matthew Halsall & The Gondwana Orchestra, multi-talented Emma-Jean Thackray, energetic Italian duo Nu Guinea and a rare Tasker b2b Minor Science appearancethere’s really something for everyone. Even better - make it a whole family outing as We Out Here is open to all ages.

We’re really proud for some of our favourite collectives to be ‘out there’ repping the fine city. Make sure you’re joining them (and us)! We already can’t wait to be in the stunning surroundings of Abbots Ripton, dancing along with the best of them.
