The South Asia Collection celebrates the arts, crafts and cultures of South Asia and neighbouring countries. The diverse collection is housed in a beautifully restored Victorian roller skating rink – an unusual setting that complements the rich history of each artefact. From intricately embroidered Kutchi camel covers to 19th-century views of the Himalayas, or carved architecture from Lahore, every object tells a fascinating story.
The museum was founded by Philip and Jeannie Millward, who began the collection in 1979. Along with the South Asian Decorative Arts and Crafts Collection Trust (SADACC) they work hard to conserve and promote the traditional arts and crafts of South Asia. The South Asia Collection shop, run by Country & Eastern, offers a unique range of objects and textiles direct from makers in South Asia.
