Waking Life Festival, Crato, Portugal 2024

  • Waking Life Monte da Pedra, Portalegre, 7430 Portugal (map)

Waking Life Festival, nestled in the picturesque environment of Crato, Portugal, is more than just a six-day rave celebrating the summer solstice. This festival, basking under the warm desert sun and surrounded by eucalyptus trees, is a midsummer festival and a year-round playground for creation and experimentation.

Originating from a shared dream of friends to build a community in a sunny part of the world, Waking Life has become a space for planting ideas and cultivating alternative ways of living, learning, and loving. It's an evolving platform for artistic experimentation, spirited self-expression, and collective imagineering of a society that deviates from the norm.

On the administrative side, Waking Life is a not-for-profit association based in Portugal, largely driven by voluntary efforts. While the June gathering is its cornerstone, the festival is part of a larger, multidimensional community project with cultural, countercultural, and agricultural initiatives.

The festival's diverse and artistically rich lineup, curated early on with the involvement of Roots of Minimal, includes established names like Ben UFO and Mala, as well as unique acts such as Voice Actor, Nah Eeto, and Ustad Noor Bakhsh. Scheduled for 19-24 June 2024, it promises warm weather and an inviting atmosphere for festival-goers.

Priced at €250, excluding a €10 waste deposit, Waking Life offers various accommodation options, from on-site camping to local Airbnbs, and shuttle services from major cities. Its commitment to accessibility includes provisions for attendees in different economic and social situations, including subsidized tickets.

Waking Life Festival transcends the typical festival experience, embodying a vision of freedom and divergent reality.
