Plant based eats With Tiffany Wallace

Scientist, nature writer, rewilder and educator Tiffany Wallace @wildlittlewallace works in conservation, which encompasses issues from environmental policies to increasing biodiversity. As a mixed-race woman, she campaigns for a greater representation of diversity. A fierce vegan foodie and neurodivergent, Tiffany is particular about the flavour and texture of food. With so many great plant-based options in Norwich, here she shares her favourites.

Dönor Bei Tante Anne

Sometimes all you want is a cheese toastie – here they do the best using smoked applewood vegan cheese!
Other comfort food includes the delicious krautsalat which accompanies the donor, or the potato gyros. The owner Anne and her staff are friendly and warm. Sometimes I just want simple, healthy and affordable food – it’s so unique and tasty and won’t break the bank or the planet.

The Workshop

A unique eating establishment festooned with plants (which can be purchased should you be a plant-lover like me).
The babbling water fountains add to the tranquillity. Warren and Jamal are a dynamic duo responsible for my vegan brunch experience at this artisanal food and coffee shop. I go for the mezze, cake and a chat! Alternatively, you can go with friends for a coffee and a board game.

Erpingham House

This carbon-neutral restaurant promises, and more importantly delivers, both a visually and palatably pleasing experience. I run events here for little ones because the decor is inspiring, and the food is healthy, tasty and fun. From the complex mock lamb aubergine dish to the classic Moving Mountains burger, each plate is delicious, filling and visually stunning. You can even take your pet for dinner as they stock vegan pet meals!

The Tipsy Vegan

With a warm, fun, friendly atmosphere, their menu is cosy, popular food done very well. With a 50s New York Italian vibe and the most glamorous, tasty cocktails you can imagine, I like to go here with friends on quiz night. You can order a few plates to share.

68-70 St Benedict's Street, NR2 4AR

Blue Joanna

Their vegan tapas plates are always an awesome experience for my palette. They do blue tacos
with jackfruit, Southern-fried spicy red pepper oyster mushrooms, grilled aubergine and miso with chilli. I like their dishes so much that when they switch from the summer to winter menu, I am sad to see them go! (See p.153)

Namaste Village

A nod to the Anglo-Indian part of my Indo- Portuguese heritage, I come to this hospitable south Indian restaurant for my much-needed masala dosa fix – potato in spices inside a savoury rice pancake, served with sambar. I describe it as a cuddle in my tummy! The restaurant is so beautiful and grand that we held my father’s 60th birthday here, where the family came from all over for the best food and hospitality.
